Lolli Review: Bitcoin Back on Your Shopping, With Strings Attached

Disclosure: some links on this page are affiliate links. If you open an account through one, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. It does not change what we recommend. How this site is funded.

Lolli is a free shopping-rewards app that pays you back in bitcoin instead of points. You shop at stores you already use, the store pays Lolli a commission, and Lolli passes part of it to you. Our verdict: a reasonable way to pick up your first few thousand sats without buying any, as long as you withdraw them regularly and do not expect the headline rates. It is not a place to keep bitcoin.

Facts on this page were checked against Lolli’s own help pages, terms, and blog on September 19, 2026. Lolli changes its terms often; read the current ones before you rely on anything here.

What it is

Lolli launched in 2018 as a browser extension and is run by Lolli Holdings, Inc. In July 2025 it was bought by Thesis, a bitcoin venture studio that also built Mezo and tBTC. The change of owner was rough on existing users: withdrawals were paused for about three months while the system was rebuilt, and when they came back in October 2025 the only way out was through Mezo, Thesis’s own network, with a 30,000-sat minimum. Lolli apologized publicly, and in December 2025 added Lightning withdrawals with a much lower minimum. That is the version of Lolli described here.

It works as a website, a browser extension (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge), and iPhone and Android apps. It costs nothing to use. You must be 18 or older. The website and extension work in many countries; the mobile app and most of the newer features are US-only.

How you earn

  • Online shopping. Start from Lolli’s site or let the extension activate at a partner store, then buy as usual. This is the core of it.
  • Card-linked offers (US, since May 2026). Link a card through Plaid and earn at participating merchants when you pay with it, in store or online.
  • Gift cards (US, mobile app, since September 2026). Buy store gift cards in the app for a small percentage back.
  • Daily Stack and games. A free daily reward worth a few sats, and payouts for playing partner mobile games. Pocket change.

You will also see “Mats” accumulate next to your sats. Those are loyalty points for Mezo, and Lolli’s own help page says they have no current monetary value. Ignore them.

What the rates really look like

The home page says “up to 30% back.” The stores most people actually use pay far less. On September 19, 2026, Lolli’s US store list showed these “up to” rates: Amazon 1.1%, Lowe’s 0.9%, Booking.com 0.7%, Target 0.3%, Walmart 0.2%, Nike 0.2%, Home Depot 0.2%, Best Buy 0.1%. Smaller and subscription brands pay more: LEGO and Temu 4.5%, Prime Video 5.2%. Rates change constantly, and “up to” often means only some product categories qualify.

Put plainly: $1,000 of ordinary big-box shopping might earn a few dollars of bitcoin. That is still more than nothing, and it is bitcoin you did not have to buy, but nobody is getting rich here.

Waiting for rewards

A reward starts as pending and typically takes around 90 days to confirm, because Lolli waits for the store’s return window to close and for the store to pay. If the store has not paid Lolli within 120 days, the pending reward expires. Returns and refunds cancel it. Two things void rewards that catch people out: using another cashback or coupon extension on the same purchase, and entering a coupon code that did not come from Lolli. Ad blockers can break the tracking, and the Brave browser is not supported.

Getting your bitcoin out

Only confirmed rewards can be withdrawn, and as of this writing there are two ways to do it:

  • Lightning. Minimum 1,000 sats, sent to a Lightning address, arrives in seconds, fees of a fraction of a cent. This is the one to use. You need a wallet that gives you a Lightning address; see The Lightning Network.
  • Mezo. Minimum 30,000 sats, to a wallet on Thesis’s Mezo network, with a small network fee. Moving on from Mezo to the main Bitcoin network needs 0.01 BTC. Mezo is a lending and stablecoin platform, not a beginner product, and we would skip it.

There is no direct withdrawal to an ordinary on-chain bitcoin address, and dollar balances cannot be withdrawn at all; they can only be spent on gift cards in the app. Lolli may ask you to verify your identity before a withdrawal, and its terms let it decide when, without a fixed dollar threshold.

The catches

  • Use it or lose it. Under the current terms, if you go 12 months in a row without earning a reward, your account becomes inactive and every unwithdrawn reward, confirmed ones included, is forfeited without further notice. This is the single most important thing to know.
  • It is not your bitcoin until you withdraw it. Lolli holds the balance for you. Its terms say the account is not a financial account, that you are a general unsecured creditor of Lolli for confirmed rewards, and that its liability is capped at $50. We found no mention of insurance. See Wallets and Self-Custody for why that matters.
  • It watches your shopping. That is how it works. The privacy policy covers click-stream and browsing data collected by the extension and app, and for linked cards Lolli receives the merchant, amount, date, and location of your transactions. The way to stop the collection is to uninstall.
  • A poor complaints record. When we checked, Lolli had 1.7 out of 5 on Trustpilot (38 reviews), an F from the Better Business Bureau, and about 2.1 stars on Google Play, against 4.8 on Apple’s App Store. The recurring complaints are rewards stuck pending, withdrawals that did not arrive, locked accounts, and slow support. We found no reported hack or data breach.
  • The terms move. Lolli reserves the right to change minimums, methods, and schedules at any time, and 2025 showed it will.

How to use it sensibly

  1. Set up a wallet with a Lightning address first, so you have somewhere to send rewards.
  2. Never buy something because of the reward. A 1% rebate does not make an unneeded purchase cheaper.
  3. Check whether your credit card’s own portal or a plain coupon code beats Lolli’s rate. For big retailers it often does, and you cannot stack them.
  4. Withdraw every time you pass 1,000 confirmed sats. Small, frequent withdrawals mean a frozen account or a rule change can never cost you much.
  5. If you stop using it, withdraw what is there rather than letting the 12-month clock run out.

Taxes

Rewards tied to a purchase are generally treated like a rebate, a discount on what you bought, rather than income; that is the position in the guide Lolli published with a CPA from CoinTracker. Your cost basis is the dollar value on the day you received the sats, and selling or spending them later is a capital gain or loss like any other bitcoin. Rewards you did not buy anything to get, such as the daily reward, game payouts, and referral or sign-up bonuses, are more likely to count as ordinary income, and Lolli’s terms say it may report rewards to tax authorities. This is general information, not tax advice; see Bitcoin and Taxes.

Who it’s for

Lolli suits someone who shops online anyway, is comfortable with a shopping extension seeing where they shop, and wants to collect a little bitcoin without putting money in. It is a gentle way to learn how a Lightning wallet works with amounts too small to worry about. It does not suit anyone who values privacy highly, anyone who will forget about it for a year, or anyone hoping to accumulate a meaningful amount; for that you need to buy bitcoin.

A note on the link below: when we checked in September 2026, Lolli was not running a referral program we could find, so there is no sign-up bonus for you and nothing in it for us. It is a plain link to Lolli, listed here because the app is a fair answer to “how do I get a little bitcoin without buying any?” We look again every month; if Lolli brings a referral offer back, this page will say what it is and that the link has become a referral link. This is education, not financial or tax advice.
